Akron Falls Park

We considered going out of town for Columbus Day weekend, but ended up deciding to stay close to home but focus on doing things together as a family and planning some fun activities.

One of those was to go hiking. I'd heard good things about Akron Falls Park, which is only about half and hour away. So we headed there for a hike. First we stopped at Gus's Sub shop in downtown Akron, for lunch. We were originally planning on getting it to go and having a picnic, but after taking the kids to the park across the street while we waited for them to finish our orders, we (I) decided it was too cold and we should eat inside.

Then we headed to the park. We had a hard time finding where the trail head was, but after asking a few people we found the parking lot. We walked down and saw the waterfalls, although they were a little smaller than we were expecting.

But the fall colors made it very pretty. It will probably be even more vibrant in a couple weeks. The kids enjoyed walking along the paths. I love these sweet ones with Peter and Emma.

The boys loved climbing on the rocks near the stream. I think the water level was really low this day - a lot of the rocks were covered in algae and there were signs about strong currents. We'll have to come back sometime in the spring and check out the difference.

There were several playgrounds nearby and Hannah wanted to play there instead. So while I stayed with the boys and watched them play, Peter took the girls to the playground and the swings. I was able to get some pictures of them while waiting outside the restroom for Marshall after they were done on the rocks. I love watching the girls play with their daddy.
