Spencer's birthday was on a Monday this year - the first day back to school after the random week off in February. I think it was good that he got to go back to school on his birthday - he loves being with people and sharing fun times with them.
We also had a special visit from Grandma Holmes. She came on Sunday evening bearing gifts and then spent the night and left Monday morning. It was fun to spend some time with her and the kids were so excited to see her.
She brought yummy ice cream cake and her presents for Spencer were all about baseball and to get him ready for the upcoming season. He was very excited. I love how expressive Spencer is - he wears his emotions on his face.
Hannah is expressive, too, I guess.
A batting helmet.
Cleats.
A bat. He has promised that even when he's a famous baseball player he'll always keep that bat.
Baseballs.
Thanks, Grandma!
She was also able to read with Hannah and spend some time with Marshall and Hannah while I went visiting teaching on Monday morning.
Spencer asked to bring brownies in for his classmates, so Grandma and I prepared and packaged those on Sunday night. For dinner he requested pizza (surprise, surprise) and more ice cream cake. Then we had a short Family Home Evening and opened presents.
This big box was a kit for making fire starters - wax, dryer lint, and egg cartons. He loves Scouts and I thought he'd be excited to put these together.
This present was from Grandma Brinton - a coloring book, markers in lots of colors, and an Encyclopedia Brown book. He loved it.
He also got a watch for his birthday. He was very excited about it and wanted to take very good care of it. To a fault, actually, because he took it off and lost it the first Saturday after he got it. He was very upset, but I haven't had any luck tracking it down. Oh well, it's an important lesson to learn. And it brought him a lot of happiness for 5 days.
