Becker Farms

We went up to Becker Farms at the end of raspberry season and the beginning of blueberry season to pick some fresh berries. It was a beautiful day, although it was actually a bit hot to spend much time working in the hot sun, especially for the kids. But I enjoy getting out and showing the kids where their food comes from.  And you can't get a much yummier treat than fresh blueberries.

The farm also had baby chicks.  There was also a parrot that had a sign by it that said it spoke English and Spanish.  This was definitely a highlight for the kids, since they love Dora and Diego. I don't think we actually heard it speak, but just the idea that it knows Spanish was very exciting for Spencer. He still talks about it.  I think they liked the birds in cages better than the blueberries.

They also had alpacas.

And goats with a goat walk.  But the goats were LAME. They didn't even walk up the goat walk to get the food, they just ate whatever fell to the ground.

When we lived in Virginia we went to a place on the Rappahannock River to pick strawberries. They had a goat walk that was amazing.  Peter and I still talk about how great that place was.  Here is a picture of a goat from their goat walk. It put Becker Farms to shame. They should be embarrassed.

As we were driving we saw a cool ruin of an old mill building. Here is a picture of the sign and the building.

Western New York has such a great amount of history. I just wish there was more time to learn about it all and more money to preserve everything and teach others why it is important.
