Marshall's Worm party

We celebrated Marshall's birthday on his actual birthday, too, but since it was a Sunday and also Father's Day, it wasn't a great day to have a friend party.  So on Tuesday morning, we had some friends over to celebrate.  We had a "worm" theme, since Marshall likes bugs and worms and I thought he would enjoy it.  We played a fishing game for the first activity.  We had a fish puzzle and fishing rod game already.  I sewed a "worm" on the end of the fishing pole, and I wrote action songs on the back of each little fish.

So when someone picked something, we would read what was on the back and do whatever song it was.  I think here we're doing "Popcorn Popping."

Then I let the kids watch a 15-minute segment of Curious George.  Marshall loves George, and there was a segment called "George Digs Worms."  Scott picked it up for us from a library in Rochester so that we could watch it during the party.

For lunch we had "worm sandwiches" - hot dogs cut up and heated in barbecue sauce.  They start to curl and look kind of like worms.  We also had chips, blueberries, and strawberries.  We put ours on hot dog buns instead, but they looked similar to this.

For dessert we had cups of dirt (pudding, cream cheese, cool whip and crushed-up Oreos)with gummy worms.  It was yummy, but kind of messy (I should have expected that with something made to look like dirt).

I called a friend and asked her to bring birthday candles this time.  But when I lit them and the kitchen fan was going, it almost blew them out before Marshall could.

Then we opened presents, and it was time for everyone to go home.  I made worm party favors by wrapping mentos, stapling the ends, and gluing on wiggly eyes.

It was a fun day, and Marshall was exhausted afterward and konked out on the couch while Grandma Holmes read him a story. That's a sign of a fun party, right?

Here are a few pictures of the decorations, too.  I made the banners for a baby shower I helped throw for a friend.  The letters are just pinned on, so they're interchangeable.
